Setting up a Centre of Excellence on Communication and Media Research, Training and Practice. This project was supported by the Ford Foundation in 2009 and 2011, following recommendations from a regional conference held in March, 2008 on the need to promote excellence in the communication and media journalism sector. Four publications have been produced, as well as a documentary.

In addition, two PhD students were sponsored on a short study visit to two universities in the USA (University of Southern Illinois and Kansas State University). Both of them have graduated with the PhD (Communication and Information Studies) degree. Under the project, Professor Peter Kareithi of University of Pennyslvania was a Visiting Professor on the School’s doctoral programme.

An MOU establishing The Centre of Excellence on Communication and Media Research, Training and Practice was signed between the University, the Media Council of Kenya, the Ministry of Information and Communication and the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
